Mahindra The Roxx launched in India.
Mahindra & Mahindra has formally unveiled the much-awaited Thar Roxx in India, marking the entry of the brand’s 5-door SUV variant. The starting price for the base petrol version is Rs 12.99 lakh, while the diesel version starts at Rs 13.99 lakh.
Powertrain Options
The Thar Roxx gives 2 engine choices designed to cater to a variety of driving requirements. The petrol variant is equipped with a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine, delivering 160 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. For those people who prefer diesel, the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine gives 150 bhp and 330 Nm of torque. Both engine alternatives come with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, permitting drivers to select their preferred driving experience.
Exterior design
The Thar Roxx keeps the classic boxy silhouette that has become synonymous with the Thar brand, but with a superior trending twist. The SUV features a redesigned grille with 6 double-stacked slots, followed by LED projector headlamps and C-shaped LED lights (DRLs) that run in the daytime. Dual-tone alloy wheels and pronounced wheel arches increase its rugged approach, while the rear design is finished with C-shaped LED taillights and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, showing its off-road capabilities.
Interior features
Internally, the Thar Roxx offers a luxurious experience with a dashboard featuring delicate materials and seats upholstered in 2X-tone leatherette. A 10.25-inch display screen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is the major capability of the cabin’s technology suite. Other appealing features include an entirely digital instrument cluster, aired front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and rear AC vents, giving a comfortable ride for all passengers.
Safety and technology
Safety and technology are major highlights of the Thar Roxx, with Mahindra equipping the SUV with over 35 standard safety features. These contain 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and a 360-degree camera system. The vehicle also gives Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like lane keep a guide and adaptive cruise control, making it one of the most technologically advanced SUVs in its segment.
Competition in the market
In the competitive Indian SUV market, the Thar Roxx will go competitive with models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder. However, its distinctive off-road capabilities and rugged design also position it as a strong contender against the Force Gurkha, while serving as a premium alternative to the Maruti Jimny.
Bookings and test drives
Bookings for the Thar ROXX will open online and at Mahindra dealerships starting October 3, 2024, with test drives available from September 14, 2024. Deliveries are set to begin this Dussehra.
